In a story of merit, we are drawn in by the protagonist, a compelling figure who faces the impossible. We root for them. They earn our devotion as we learn of their plight and especially as we come to know their moral character. We count on them to defy prediction and beat the odds. It is no different with the young people we meet. Given the chance, they can win our hearts and exceed expectations. With the use of videos, live interviews, and magical letters, this workshop will demonstrate the potential of children to face challenges and apply their imaginative know-how under even the most demanding conditions.
David Marsten, MSW developed one of the first Narrative training programs in Los Angeles at Jewish Family Service in 1992 and went on in 1999 to establish Miracle Mile Community Practice. He has taught at the graduate level for many years. He has co-authored several articles, 3 chapters in edited collections, and the book: Narrative Therapy in Wonderland: Connecting with Children’s Imaginative Know-How.
